Q&A With ABL Group Account Executive Caoimhe Lynch

Caoimhe Lynch Insurance Specialist

Caoimhe Lynch joined ABL Group just 10 months ago but has more than 10 years’ experience in the insurance industry.  We caught up with Caoimhe to hear more about her work, life and motivations.  Keep reading for a bit more of Caoimhe’s personal story.

A Decade in the Northern Ireland Insurance Sector

In February, Caoimhe was excited to take on her latest role as an Account Executive within ABL Group, based in our Belfast HQ.  Caoimhe’s career within the insurance sector started back in 2009 as a Commercial Broker.  To date, she has worked in account handling and new business roles in commercial, corporate and international departments.

Caoimhe has completed a number of insurance qualifications through the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) including Cert IF1: Insurance, Legal and Regulatory, Cert IF8: Packaged Commercial Insurances and Cert IF9: Customer Service in Insurance.  She is also studying for her CII Diploma through ABL Academy and has completed the M80 module in Underwriting Practices.

Caoimhe has a varied set of skills, having also previously studied a degree in marketing at Ulster University and a Foundation Diploma in Biological and Biomedical Sciences at Queens University Belfast – more on this later!

What does Caoimhe think of her new workmates at ABL?  This is what she said (and no, we didn’t bribe her!):

“The ABL team are brilliant.  I am very fortunate to be surrounded by such a wealth of knowledge and support within such a progressive company.”

A Day in the Life of an Insurance Account Executive

If you think working in the insurance industry is boring, Caoimhe begs to differ!

“Insurance can sometimes get a bad rap because people associate it with being dull, however I have a very different view. Every day I get the opportunity to meet interesting new people and talk to them about their business, each of which is unique.  Each person I speak with has a different journey and story and I love taking the time to get to know them and their business. Insurance is vital to safeguard businesses and I enjoy helping people from the initial process of recommending solutions and options to being there to support clients through stressful periods when claims occur.”

Caoimhe’s Passions: Marine Biology, Rugby and Heavy Metal!

Caoimhe clearly loves her job but what if she didn’t work in the insurance industry, what would she do instead?  We asked her.

It would have to be something to do with the great outdoors. I have a keen interest in the world around us and how it works. I studied a biological science diploma for interest and love reading up on and learning about our environment. I could spend hours watching nature documentaries, especially about our oceans.  I’m an avid David Attenborough fan. On that basis, I would have to say that if I could do another job for a day it would be as an oceanographer.”

Marine biology and the environment are not Caoimhe’s only passions.

“My main hobby outside of work is rugby, it’s a fantastic sport that keeps me active and I’m lucky enough to play for a ladies rugby team in Belfast with a great group of girls.  I play as a forward.  When I started playing rugby my position was in second row, however, I’ve recently been enjoying playing flank without the fear of cauliflower ears!”

Caoimhe also enjoys live music and festivals.  She attended Download Festival earlier this year and has recently seen Metallica, Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath in concert.  Before talking to us, the last song Caoimhe listened to in the car was somewhat more mellow however – Free Bird, a power ballad by American rock band, Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Caoimhe’s Country Roots

Ever heard the saying, ‘you can take the girl out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the girl’?  Well, that applies to Caoimhe who is a country girl at heart.  Her love of the great outdoors stems from her farming background and credits her father as being one of the people who has inspired her most in life.  Caoimhe said:

“My father was a very hardworking man who instilled a strong work ethos in me and my whole family. He was a country man with a great love of the outdoors which he has passed on to me. One of my favourite places to be was helping him on the farm in the fresh air enjoying the simpler things in life.”
